About Us

After enjoying and learning so much from other hikers’ and backpackers’ blogs over the years, we decided to start our own project–Left Coast Hiker–to document and share our own experiences, adventures, and pieces of advice.

About Bones

Female hiker standing on top of a rock with her arms and hiking poles lifted into the air. There are grey rocky mountains in the distance behind her and a bright blue sky with some whispy clouds. Bones grew up in Northern California on a steady diet of fresh air and hiking, camping, mountain biking, star-gazing, sailing, kayaking, and cross-country skiing. She loves taking photos of beautiful places, spending time in the outdoors with loved ones, and falling asleep in a warm sleeping bag under the stars after a long day of exploring nature.

She earned her trail name while hiking the John Muir Trail shortly after breaking three of the bones in her fingers. Throughout the trip, her fingers would change colors and swell before each storm, serving as an extremely helpful weather gauge!

About Gadget

Smiling female hiker crossing a wide stream wearing a large orange backpacking bag with her boots hanging off the top. Gadget hails from northwestern Washington state and grew up hiking the Northern Cascades with her parents and sisters. She loves downhill skiing, snowshoeing, backpacking, camping, and mountain biking, and loves nerding out over outdoor gear. (You will frequently find her posts in the gear review section!) She is also an accomplished dehydrated meal culinary artist, and will be sharing some of her delicious recipes on this website!

Gadget’s trail name comes from her affinity for researching and trying out new gear & outdoor gadgets. She also has longer-than-average arms which have jokingly been referred to as “go go gadget” arms.
